The Southern Berkshire
Child Care Program

The Southern Berkshire Child Care Program is a non-profit organization providing quality early education and care for infants, toddlers, preschool and school age children in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District and surrounding communities. While fostering the uniqueness of each individual, the program promotes the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of children. Our nurturing educators are dedicated to helping children attain their full potential through stimulating programs in a safe and comfortable learning environment.

The program serves children ages 2 months to 12 years. The Infant, Toddler/Preschool, & 3-4 Preschool Programs run from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. We offer a before school program for school age children from 6:45-8:00 am.The After School program runs from 2:30-5:00 pm each school day with extended hours on early dismissal days. All programs are located at the Undermountain Elementary School and follow the same schedule as the Southern Berkshire Regional School District. Summer programs are available for infants/toddlers, pre-school children and school age children.

Philosophy and Goals
The philosophy of the Southern Berkshire Child Care Program (SBCCP) has its basis in a humanistic view of the child as an independent and individual learner. The aim of the program is to respond to the needs of every child as s/he develops awareness of the world and readiness for learning. Each group provides developmentally appropriate materials and activities for every child in the areas of social/emotional, intellectual, and aesthetic growth and psychomotor development.

Through planned activities, children are challenged to explore their world, solve problems, develop physically, and expand language skills and concepts. Teachers nurture a sense of competence and self-worth in every child. The emphasis is on active, hands-on learning that addresses the needs of the whole child.

Following long-term and current research on how children learn, the program offers both planned and spontaneous activities, encouraging independence while presenting limits that arise from being part of a group
