The Southern Berkshire Child Care Preschool classroom recently learned about germination by growing peas. The children planted peas, watered them, and then made their own trellis to support their peas as they grew. Once they grew, they brought them home to plant and will enjoy some fresh garden peas.

Mount Everett's Sixth Grade is working on a project involving measurement and data. This project is dual-purpose in that it gives the students hands-on experiences applying the curriculum to real-world situations. The students also gain an increased level of responsibility and respect for one another while collaborating and working with students of all ages.

Students from Mrs. Mercier's Advisory and the Pace program visited Mystic Aquarium with SEL curriculum in mind. Students explored aspects of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship skills. Students were encouraged to identify their own emotions, integrate personal and social identities, demonstrate and use stress management strategies, set collective goals, develop interest and a sense of purpose, and collaborate to use their problem-solving skills. Students watched a California sea lion show, explored the touch tanks with lion sharks and sting rays, and visited the many tanks and sea animals.

The Berkshire Edge shared a great story about the Great Barrington Airport Field Trip where our Mount Everett students were able to learn more about aviation and test their knowledge that they gained while using their classroom flight simulator! https://theberkshireedge.com/students-in-mount-everetts-sea-and-air-robotics-class-visit-great-barrington-airport-and-explore-careers-in-aviation/

Through a grant from the New Marlborough Cultural Council, the Kindergartners at New Marlborough Central explored parts of Beartown State Forest with local Wilderness Educator, Tes Reed. They observed signs of beaver activity in the form of chewed branches and, upon investigating further, eventually spotted a lodge close to the edge of the water. They compared this to another lodge further away and to a dam. Further down the trail, porcupine activity was abundant, and to everyone's delight, a young porcupine was soon spotted in a tree! Other highlights included seeing trillium, bouncy moss, hobblebush, and moosewood!
